Eggs Benedict- £6.99 at The Lounge at The Radisson Blu hotel
Some say breakfast is the most important meal of the day & we would have to agree after sampling the delights from the new breakfast menu at The Lounge. Eggs Benedict was our breakfast of choice - simple but just so delicious & cooked to absolute perfection. The muffin was toasted, soft and warm. The slice of ham was thick and meaty & Steph loved her Scottish smoked salmon which was generous, fresh and tasty. This was topped with 2perfectly poached free range eggs and a silky, perfectly seasoned hollandaise. Sitting in the wonderful surroundings of the 4* Radisson BluHotel, all you need is this breakfast& a paper for the perfect morning.
Eggs Benedict - Yes please!
Shredded beef burrito bowl & chargrilled steak burrito from £5.15 at Barburrito
Both loving Mexican food we were really excited to sample the delights of Barburrito. We opted for a burrito bowl with shredded beef and a classic burrito with chargrilled steak.
Both dishes were jam-packed with delicious zesty rice, succulent and freshly cooked meat, roasted peppers, guacamole, cheese and sour cream.
If you’re feeling peckish then this will certainly fill you up- both Gem and I were stuffed! It just tasted too good to stop (oops!).
Barburrito offers a wonderful fast food alternative at a great price. The interior is stylish and the staff are really friendly and weloming (without being cheesy!) This is a fab place for a bite to eat whilst shopping and a must food stop if you have your man in tow! It would also make for an alternative pre-cinema lunch.
A definite one to add to your lunch time haunts.
1/2 Primavera Rustica Pizza (Skinny Option) served with rocket salad £8.95 at Zizzi
Usually in a pizzeria I would always opt for a rather meaty number, however when I spotted that this pizza was both wholemeal and only 550 calories – I had to give it a try.
I must say that having read on the menu that the skinny option included half a pizza, the greedy diner in me was quietly worrying that this would be a pizza the size of a saucer! Needless to say I was greedily pleased at the generous slab of pizza put in front of us.
The primavera rustica was served on an authentic wooden board with an accompaniment of crisp rocket salad topped with parmesan shavings. The topping of chunky Mediterranean vegetables was pretty generous and if you are a goat’s cheese fan then you’ll really enjoy the taste. Both of which were complimented by the rich basil base.
So the big question...Can a pizza still be tasty if wholemeal??? Answer: Yes without hesitation! I too was slightly dubious; however it proved to be crisp, light and worked well with the strong assortment of roasted style vegetables. The fact that it was a lower calorie, but with all the guilty pleasure you get from eating a pizza – I am 100% converted!
Steph tucking into a pizza, mmm
Cichetti menu 3 for £14 or 5 for £20 at Zizzi
Oven baked chicken skewers withroasted peppers, rosemary and lemon; King prawns in a fish and white wine stock with chilli; Rump steak cooked to your liking with rocket and grana padano cheese…YES, YES & YES. These are just a few of the tasty dishes that we tried and loved on Zizzis new Cichetti menu.
The food is fast & fresh & you canorder new dishes when you want, with plenty to choose from. Between two of us 5 dishes was more than enough. For an experience that is a little different then we would definitely recommend this.
Plus pick up The Lights brand new dining out guide as Zizzi is offering diners two free glasses of Prosecco!

Chatterbox Christmas Style Guide 2011
Christmas Lunch
Christmas Day outfits need to tick two boxes 1: Comfort 2: Smart. Throughout The Lights retailers we came across a selection of fantastic day time outfits, from cutesy dresses to beautiful blouses and even must have slippers!
Check out our pick of the best!
I love the faux fur i combined with this dress- at £20 its a steal!
The dress I'm wearing here is from Ark, priced at £38. The reason I opted for this dress is that it was soooo comfy and I could easily dress it up or down.
The faux fur collar was from Joy priced at £20 (bargain!)
Below Gem is wearing a red dress from Joy (£45), which is great if you have a boyish figure. The front facing pockets help to add shape and by adding a belt you can really cinch in your waist to create definition.
The bag was from Dolls Boutique (£45) and jewellery is from Joy.
Gem didn't actually mean to pull the tree apart!
Christmas Walk
There seems to be a Christmas Day ritual for most people, which at some point of the day will include a walk to try and walk of the tin of Roses you have already consumed- but who cares its' Christmas.
We wanted to show you two very different outdoor looks, available from retailers at The Light.
Here i'm wearing a cream Barber style jacket from Dolls Boutique (£50). Can I just say I never much liked this style of coat, but after teaming it up with the rest of my outfit I really loved it. In fact I want one for Xmas!!
The red skinnies are again from Dolls (£50) and the posh wellies are from Joy (£28) and really rock the high society trend!
Gems outfit was from O'Neill, including coat (£119)/ Jumper (£24.99)/ Jeans (£19.99) and hat (£19.99). The tan boots were from Ark (£19.99).
Hmm, is that a real snowball??
Christmas Sparkle!
This seasons make-up should all be about the eyes. On the Chatterbox shoot we worked with the lovely make-up artist Paula, who helped to achieve my smokey eyes and Gem's 50's flick.
We did spot in The Body Shop some brilliant eye palettes (£14) to help you create the smokey eye effect in a variety of colours. Just remember a smoky eye doesnt have to be black, try contrasting eye colours. On the shoot Paula used blue on mine and i loved it. Using a cream based eyeshadow makes all the difference, as it gives the powder something to grab onto.
Line your eyes with black kohl eye-liner first and then apply your chosen eye shadow, that way you get a really smudged effect. Jut remember to keep lips nude.
Gem's look was acheived using a gel eyeliner, however The Body Shop does stock a great liquid eyeliner (£9) which is easy to use. The key to this look is to create the flick first and then draw a line along the lash line, ensuring that there are no gaps. Then join the flick to line - creating the perfect winged look.
Knock-em dead girls!!
Festive party make-up from The Body Shop
A/W Fashion Preview
Festive Fever!
As we are only weeks away from Christmas, I wanted to start the blog with our pick of the best party frocks and accessories.
I keep shouting about how much I lurve the current Vintage fashion trend, as to me it just oozes femininity! The dress I am wearing below is a gorgeous Louche number from Joy. What is fab about this LBD: apart from the detailed lace top and the petty coat effect skirt, is the high waistband really helps to draw the illusion of a smaller waist, which is what every girl wants! And...for just £55 it’s a steal!
Louche black lace dress Joy £55
Join The Glitteratzi!
The second party dress I wanted to show you is this Dainty Black Nicole Dress from Ark, again for just £47.99!
This sparkly dress just shouts Christmas. The ruched waist is perfect for drawing attention away from the tummy, creating a smooth appearance. The deep V plunge line is great for showing off your cleavage and the length is just right, not too short- keeping it classy.
Also if you are worried about saddle-bag arms, again this dress is perfect for hiding any wobble and will really help to create a sexy silhouette.
The key to wearing this dress successfully is wearing minimal accessories and finishing off with a spritz of some of The Body Shops 'The Sparkler' on your décolletage- Do this and you will knock them dead on the dance floor!

Cosy Knits
Thank god knitwear is big on the fashion agenda this season! From kooky knits, and cutesy cardigans to slouchy jumper dresses and granddad cardigans- it’s time to replenish your winter wardrobe!
At Joy you will find a really good selection of knitwear- both in-store and on-line (www.joythestore.com). One of my favourite pieces at Joy is the navy blue cape jumper below priced at £75. I’d team this with jeans and some brown riding boots to really work the ‘high society’ trend.
Joy Cape Jumper £75
If you’re after a novelty Knit then again Joy stocks a fun selection, I especially liked the flamingo jumper dress, which would look perfect paired with some knitted tights, leggings or even autumnal coloured shorts.
Joy Flamingo Sweater Dress £49
Both Ark and Superdry also have a great selection of knitwear and if you’re after a boyfriend chunky knit cardigan then I’d browse in both these stores. One of my favourites is the oversized/multi-coloured chunky knit below from Ark (priced at £34.99). To work the over-sized cardigan layer it on top of a floral print dress and throw on some over the knee boots.
Mulitcoloured Grandad Cardigan from Ark £34.99
Vintage Vibe!
A/Wfashion has a huge vintage vibe to it- to rock the trend think 40’s & 60’s revival.
There are some stunning vintage inspired pieces out there at the moment, from local independent designers and boutiques such as; Blue Rinse, Stitched Up & Lilly’s Pad: who make some beautiful handmade dresses- check out their new A/W Twisted Heritage collection. Plus you can bag some wonderful buys at high street favourites and online saviours including; Very.co.uk and ASOS Marketplace, where you can buy and sell clothing (visit:
Dress from Lilly Pads Twisted Heritage Autumn 2011 Collection
You only have to flick through your latest copy of Look or Glamour to spot that retailers are being influenced by times past this season; with 60’s shift dresses, Peter Pan collars, jackets and knits spilling off the rails.
Celebrities too have been endorsing the 60’s look. Alexa Chung is a huge fan and her slim-line silhouette looks effortlessly chic in a 60’s shift. Whilst the stunning Kate Winslet set tongues wagging when she appeared at the Venice Film Festival in a 60’s inspired body con dress. TOP TIP: Copy Kate and opt for a dress that has dark side panelling either side to help you look slimmer!
Kate Winslet wearing Stella McCartney
Another favourite trend of mine this Autumn is 40’s Glam. The feminine dresses, fir trims and t-bar shoes all fill me with excitement! Whilst working on the latest edition of Lightstyle magazine I came across some must-have pieces from Joy, which reminded me of the Emmy Award winning TV Drama; Mildred Pierce, staring Kate Winslet and Evan Rachel Wood.
Louche at Joy
New Look has also caught my eye, as they have just launched a purse friendly Vintage collection, which I’m sure won’t be on the shelves for too long! I spotted some cute Mary Jane shoes and a great selection of girly 1940’s inspired T-dresses for under £30. You could then accentuate your outfit with some authentic vintage accessories, such as a necklace, shoes or a fur trim if you wanted to add your own style to it.
New Look Shoes
The beauty of 1940’s Vintage is that it pretty much suits all shapes and sizes, unlike a lot of fashion trends, meant only for skinny size 0 models. I adore the lady-like nature of this period of fashion, it instantly makes me want to put on a bit of red lipstick, throw in some rollers and flick my leg up in glee! (I’m thinking Hollywood sex bomb, Lauren Becall)

Day 1: Fresh Face
Looking after your skin takes a bit more than slapping on a bit of sun-cream. Instead give it the pre-holiday treatment it deserves and say hello to a healthy glowing complexion!
A once a month must-have! (By Steph)
Treat yourself to a really good facial, a few days before your holiday- this is a quick way of helping to reveal a brighter looking complexion. I went for a 30 minute Dermalogica Facial at headlines hair and beauty at Esporta. The array of amazing Dermalogica products used, would tempt the most frugal person into getting their purse out. From a gorgeous watermelon cleanser followed by a rice-based enzyme exfoliator, intensive moisture masque, and balancing moisturiser. Plus the treatment even included a neck and shoulder massage and a head massage- so it was well worth the £30!
I was so chilled after the treatment and my complexion looked energised. My hair on the other hand did remind me of the scene from Jurassic park, where the little boy gets electrocuted, so I would suggest you take something to pin your hair up after the head massage!
A Wash Bag Essential (By Steph)
Even on a cloudy summers day don't forget that the suns rays will still cause havoc to un-protected skin, including premature skin ageing (eeek)! So lather on a decent moisturiser that contains a high SPF. Always warm it through your fingers first to release the active ingredients before applying. I love the Body shops zingy Vitamin C daily moisturiser, which contains SPF 30 and ultra nourishing sesame seed oil. The lovely zesty smell will also make you think 'holidays'!
Hot Tip (By Steph)
And finally, I have to make reference to some amazing beauty tips in this months' Cosmo. Check out page 174 (The Best 50 Beauty Tips Ever) I particularly like tip no: 29: A headstand a day for one minute will help to energise the skin and oxygenate the head, brain, skin and detox facial tissue- I say legs up girls!
Steph about to enjoy a relaxing Dermalogica facial at Headlines UK

Day 2: Perfect Pins:
Getting perfect pins takes a lot of work and if you want Cameron Diaz toned legs- simply cheat your way with these hot tips!
Scrub up! (By Steph)
My skin is pretty dry, so I tried out Body Shops Africa Ximeria Salt & Scrub, priced at £15 from the Spa Wisdom Africa range. Not only is the packaging lovely, and would look great in your bathroom, but this really smelt delicious and was such a treat to use. To get the best out of this product use it on slightly damp skin (not too wet or like with all scrubs it just dissolves). Work it up the legs using circular motions- to really boost circulation and encourage lymphatic flow. It has a wonderful creamy texture, and was also fab at removing fake tan and definitely left my skin softer. For visible results you need to use it at least a couple of times a week!
Lunch break work out! (By Steph)
Girls, squeeze in your daily 30 minutes of exercise, by trying out a Group Cycling class at Esporta on your lunch break! Gem and I gave it a go and it was a seriously challenging workout and I definitely felt the burn (ouch!) But the instructor Rachel really motivated you to work harder and the mix of tunes she played will really help to keep you going too.
In just 30 minutes a Group Cycling class can help you burn up to 400 calories- making it an amazing pre-holiday leg workout. Give it a go yourself visit www.esporta.com for more info.
Tan-tastic (By Gem)
Forget smelling like smoky bacon and looking like someone from TOWIE (no offence intended!) as The Body Shops new Honey Bronze Dry Shimmer Oil for £16 is the way forward. It's easy to apply, non greasy, smells incredible and results in a very subtle looking colour. I was happy with the colour but I am an English rose at heart so didn't need to use too much. If you wanted to go darker it would be really easy to layer up and increase the strength of the tan with more applications.
The word shimmer always puts me off slightly as I have used 'shimmer' products before and have ended up looking like a Christmas reindeer, however this product offered a very subtle sheen which I felt made my legs look lean and lovely.
The oil didn't stain my hands and I managed to apply it and run onto a very last minute lunch date with no fuss at all.
My only tip would be to get out and buy it now. It has recently been featured in Grazia so will be flying off those shelves quicker than you can say 'tan me up like TOWIE!'
The Body Shops Dry Shimmer Oil
Day Three: Twinkle Toes
There is nothing more embarrassing on holiday than cracked, dry feet on show, and even more devastating if teamed with a gorgeous pair of sandals (please don't do it girls!). If that's you, then it's time to treat those feet!
DIY (By Steph)
I paid a visit to Body Shop to find out what DIY foot care products you can try at home. I opted for the Peppermint smoothing pumice foot scrub priced at £7 and a Purifying foot mask priced at £8.
The foot scrub contained volcanic rock, which had a strange spongy like texture, but don't be put off, as it was a really good cooling exfoliation, that smelt really minty and left my feet super polished.
I chose the foot mask to follow, as it sounded quite fun to use and simple, which it was. Left on for ten minutes to help sooth tired feet and draw out impurities it left my tootsies feeling deeply refreshed and moisturised. Both products would be a must for any pre-holiday preening!
Nail it! (By Steph)
With fully refreshed feet, I wanted knock-out toe nails to match and what better on-trend treatment than to choose from some gorgeous Minx designs at Appy Feet! After flicking through the choice of Minx designs like a kid in a sweet shop, I excitedly pulled out some nautical inspired red and white stripes with navy anchors, which will last around 3 weeks- so no need to worry about, chipped nails on holiday. In just 30 minutes and for just £20 the lovely beautician Emma had transformed my nails into gorgeous pieces of art!
Fish frenzy (By Gem)
It is difficult not to have heard of the now infamous garra-ruffa fish that seem to enjoy nothing more than a feast of dead skin cells - delicious! I visited Appy Feet to see what all the fuss was about and was actually pleasantly surprised.
I'm not going to lie to you - these fish aren't shy. As soon as your foot is close to the water they are licking their tiny little lips. It would be the perfect activity to do with a group of friends but even by myself I felt perfectly at ease.
Ten minutes later I emerged with surprisingly smooth feet and even lower leg. There was a huge difference that was even more noticeable later on in the day once my feet had properly dried and i'd done a bit of walking. For £15, no fuss, a bit of a treat and a giggle I would definitely recommend it.
Well it would be rude to hide these feet away now! So sandal up ladies and let's tempt this sunshine back out!
Steph trying out The Body Shops peppermint foot range
Day 4: Body Beautiful
If the thought of putting on that new bikini fills you with dread, then fear not as here are a few ways to buff up quick!
Best Buy (By Steph)
Body brushing: Sounds painful but you soon get used to it and it is fantastic at boosting circulation and helping to reduce the appearance of unsightly cellulite. I love The Sanctuarys dual performance body brush (£12) used daily this must-have beauty buy will help you achieve radiant skin. Order yours at: http://www.thesanctuary.co.uk/dual-performance-body-brush-details.htm. And also discover some helpful 'how to use tips'.
Mud glorious mud! (By Gem)
With a summer wedding fast approaching, and no holiday to make me all bronzed and beautiful I took the next best step and opted for a Dermalogica body treatment from Headlines that promised a detoxifying treatment to smooth skin, improve circulation and re-mineralise.
The treatment involved 4 separate stages over half an hour. 1) dry body brush - ouch! But improves circulation and removes dead skin cells. 2) Application of sea mud which detoxes & re-mineralises the skin - cold but very soothing after the body brushing! This is when you are wrapped in foil, 2 towels and a duvet. This may sound excessive but it so nice and warm that I could have stayed there all night. The heat encourages your body to sweat out toxins and impurities. At this stage you are also treated to a head massage which was totally unexpected but an amazing treat. 3) shower - although I was feeling so relaxed at this point Catherine (my therapist) could have told me to jump in a bog and I would have! 4) moisturise 5) get dressed - this is the most difficult part as I really didn't want it to end.
For £33, which is the same as you would pay for a cinema trip these days! I think it is a delightful bargain. To book an appointment call 0113 246 9111.
The Body Shops amazing Salt Scrub
Day 5: Summer Slap
Summer make-up should be simple, effortless and ultimately stay-put in the heat!
Pucker Up (By Steph)
Body Shops Honey Bronze collection will really help you achieve that holiday glow, try out the new Lip Nectar (£9.50) to add a bit of night-time glam, without over doing it.
Eye Eye! (By Gem)
The Body Shops new eye cube in Green (£16) comes complete with a handy little instruction leaflet (which was perfect for me as I have been applying my makeup now using the same technique for about 20 years!). I would recommend applying the product before any of your other make up as it is a little messy.
I ended up with an eye full of aquas & greens that was perfect for my night out - and was even complemented on my new look. There are 3 other colour cubes available to suit all skin tones, so go on and try a new look today!
Chip FREE (By Gem)
I was looking for chip-free, high shine nails that would be great for a holiday, so I took a friend recommendation that took me to Hanalee salon to try out the new Shellac nails. Shellac is a gel varnish that claims to last up to 14 days.
I opted for an amazing 'Hollywood' red colour, and after a couple of coats and a blast underneath the UV lamp I was left with glossy, smooth looking nails that looked hot!
I was seriously impressed that you don't have to worry about smudging your nails, as Shellac dries instantly.
Try it for yourself, for just £25 at Hanalee.
Perm baby perm! (By Gem)
The promise of not having to apply mascara for up to 2 weeks - it can't be true. But yes it is! I visited Hanalee for an eyelash perm and tint. Whilst £44 may seem slightly expensive, price per wear value makes it very purse friendly.
After 30 minutes, of a fairly relaxing treatment I was left with amazingly dark, curled lashes.
I did find that for nights out it was necessary to add a bit of mascara but for the majority of the time I felt perfectly comfortable with no eye makeup which was a real treat.
